Warsaw excursions

Jewish sights
on Vistula's
west bank

duration: 3-6 hours

In this excursion are included sights connected to Warsaw’s jewish ghetto, but not solely. Before  the second world war, Warsaw was a city with the biggest jewish community in Europe, followed  only by New York, in terms of size. Throughout the trail we would understand and get the  impression of how the jewish life in Warsaw looked like before, during and after the war.

We will start our mutual way in Grzybowski square and the sights around it – Prozna st., The All saints church and The Nozyk synagogue. Not far away from that point we’ll find a memorial for  Janusz Korczak, one of the most distinctive figures in the chronicles of the ghetto.  Our next stop would be the last standing relic of the Ghetto wall, where we could understand  some figures concerning the everyday life of the people who were forced to live behind those  walls. The ruins of the building in Walicow st. nr. 14 will take us back in time, and there we’ll hear  the story of “The poet of the ghetto” – Wladyslaw Szlengel.

The wooden footbridge – our following point - was standing on the crossroad of Zelazna and  Chlodna streets had a key point role in the passage between the two parts of the ghetto. We’ll  see the monument commemorating this crucial point and realize how it divided the ghetto into  two parts.

We’ll continue for a short tour around the conserved, still operational, Jewish cemetery of  Warsaw. Some famous figures are buried in this sacred place, and some tombstones are worth  seeing.

Our excursion will be summed up in the “Memorial route of Jewish martyrdom and struggle”,  straining from the “Umschlagplatz” to the famous Rapaport memorial for the heroes of the  Warsaw ghetto. Along the path, we’ll encounter names of figures and places relevant to the  ghetto and the uprising that took place in it.

Three palaces in Warsaw

duration: 3 hours

Warsaw was and is a home for many palaces. Some were restored after the war, some still awaits reconstruction. By exploring some of them, we'll get acquainted with Warsaw's glory and social classes in the recent past.
we'll walk to the Palace of Culture and Science, and visit points of interest around it. Built in the 50s on the rebels of pre-war Warsaw, its prime location and unique architecture offer many stories to be told.
We'll continue to the Saxon gardens and the tomb of the unknown soldier, a remnant of the extravagant Saxon palace, belonging to the period of the elected kings, where, for the first time, residents of the city were allowed to go into royal parks.
As a contra, at the neighboring Krasinski garden, known also as "the Jewish Garden", one could find a whole different scenery in comparison to the Saxon Garden. While visiting there, we'll get acquainted with its Jewish glory and enjoy the beauty of the Krasinski palace.
